Designed for cutting efficiency and the freedom of cordless convenience, the 13-inch cordless LST136W trimmer and edger delivers more power from the motor to the cutting string so you can get the job done faster. Thanks to Black & Decker’s exclusive PowerDrive Transmission, you’ll be able to trim grass in hard-to-reach areas where mowers cannot cut while also maintaining a neat edging along hard surfaces.
It’s powered by Black & Decker’s high-powered 40-volt MAX lithium-ion battery system, which offers power, excellent runtime, and the versatility to share batteries with other tools within the system.
Trimming Power and Convenience
Choose the amount of power you need to get the job done faster and more efficiently. Use the PowerCommand dial to choose between max power to tackle thick weeds (8500 RPM) and max runtime to increase battery life (6500 RPM). The PowerDrive Transmission design provides more cutting force to cut twice the amount of branches at one time.
The LST136W’s head can be rotated 180-degrees for quick switches between cutting and edging tasks. It also offers Black & Decker’s Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system, which uses centrifugal force to dispense more line whenever you need it for added predictability and dependability — no bumping required. Other features include an auxiliary handle with quick release, 13-inch cutting swath, and 0.065 line diameter.

Won’t go back to gas ★★★★★
I’ve had a 4-cycle gas edger for 6 years, and it finally started causing me some problems. I’m a software engineer, so I don’t pretend to know a lot about gas engines. I’ve come to terms with it. So, I decided to see what alternatives were out there, and found this.
I was a little dubious at first, but decided to give it a shot. The verdict? I like this one better than my old gas one in every way, and I won’t be going back.
40 volts is a lot of juice for an edger. It cuts through weeds and edges along my driveway and walkways without any hesitation. And the battery lasts quite a while. I leave it on the maximum setting 100% of the time, and I can trim around all the trees and natural areas in the yard, and then edge around the back patio, the driveway and the walkways, and still have over 50% battery when I’m done.
It is lighter weight and lower maintenance than my old gas edger. You don’t have to worry about running to the gas station to refill the gas can. You don’t have to put oil in it. You don’t have to worry about a spark plug. You don’t have to adjust a choke. You don’t have to troubleshoot when it won’t start. And, the automatic line feeder works surprisingly well.
All you have to do is charge the battery (I throw it on the charger right before I start mowing and it’s ready by the time I’m ready to edge), throw it in, and pull the trigger. It’s really that simple, and it has the power to do everything my old gas one did. Why would I ever go back? (source)
Can’t I believe I waited so long ★★★★★
This year we decided to save some money by doing our own lawn care after our service provider went out of the business. After reading numerous reviews, I opted to try out a cordless string trimmer for the first time. Can’t believe I waited this long!
As a middle aged female who knows zilch about tools, I’ve used a trimmer exactly 1x before. The first time was a disaster as I didn’t know there were speeds. I hated the smell, smoke, difficulty priming, maintenance and nearly everything else about the entire experience. All said and done, that was the first…and as far as I was concerned…last time.
However, I actually enjoy working in the yard so someone told me to try a cordless model since it doesn’t have the same maintenance, start-up routine etc…all I can say is WOW! Basically you hold a button and it’s off and running. I went to try it out and did the entire yard. Recharge is fast. Weight is comfortable. Powerful enough to do anything I wanted.
This is for the 40V version. (source)
